seen@sdcc2008: iron ape by dez einswell

Frankly, I'm not too sold on this "Iron Man/Mark 3"-influenced IRON APE by Dez Einswell x XLarge - as seen in SDCC [images by John "Spanky" Stokes] - but reckon it may appeal to some Iron Man-fans, as well as make for interesting blog-fodder, at the very least ... (altho the STD Toy-icon ring is a tad out of place too) ...but it may be a different story if this was an all-silver MARK2-inspired

hot toys' 1/6 iron man mark 3 @ sideshow collectibles

Looking at the by-now-iconic pose of the Iron Man statue by Sideshow Collectibles (above-left) - makes me wish somehow that the Hot Toy's 1/6th IRON MAN MARK 3 figure [tagged] could replicate the exact same pose (nobody said it couldn't, but nobody has posed it like that thus far) - becoz really, that's one hawt pose, innit? LOLBesides being on display @ SDCC (both versions), the HT 1/6th Mark 3

seen@sdcc2008: umbrella academy prototypes

Spotted @ SDCC [via Steve Talkowski's flickr] were prototype PVC figures of Dark Horse's UMBRELLA ACADEMY (height undetermined) - with characters created for a 6-issue limited-series comicbook written by Gerard Way (of My Chemical Romance) with interior art by Gabriel Bá and covers by James Jean - currently collected into a trade paperback "Apocalypse Suite" (the series returns in November

seen@sdcc2008: tamashii nations

In addition to the Movie Realization Batman & Batpod [tagged / pic courtesy of Steve Talkowski's flickr] on display at the Tamashii Nations' booth @ SDCC (altho I wonder why they are still showing the unpainted proto) included various rump-kicking hyper-insane'O S.I.C. Imagination Works Dioramas showcasing works by Takayuki Takeya and Kenji Ando - for which Kirkland of Toybot Studios has more

seen@sdcc2008: customed uni-formz batman for paint the bat

The last this blog saw of UNI-FORMZ's Batman urban-vinylized figure was SDCC 2007 - but and this year, they've gotten unto the customization-wagon with the aforementioned figure as the primary platform - with completed works by contest-winners of Mattel's PAINT THE BAT contest (with mixed results as far as I'm concerned, IMHO) - CLICK THRU for more custom-pics on display at San Diego Comic

seen@sdcc2008: customed oversized darth vader vcds

You've seen 1:1-scaled Vader helmets being customized, now Medicom Toy's Oversized 17-incher Darth Vader VCD [tagged] gets the custom-treatment, as seen on display during SDCC @ Sideshow Collectible's massive display booth. Reportedly to be auctioned off for charity (WHICH charity or WHO the artists involved are - are still a mystery to me :/). CLICK THRU to peep more.So is this Darth Maul an

seen@sdcc2008: masked karimbah & paul pope

Paul Pope at the Kidrobot SDCC signing (circa July 26) for the release of his MASKED KARIMBAH toy [tagged] = limited to an edition of 300 pcs @ a SRP of US$150-per set ... altho I'm waiting to see pics of the "secret vinyl toy" within, or even the 16-pager comicbook that came with the figure-set? (altho we do glimpse the cover via pic below)and yes, Busyphillys (the ride) does come anatomically

seen@sdcc2008: g.i.joe muggs

And there I thought the Optimus Prime Mugg would be my last Mugg-post for SDCC - when along comes a quartet o G.I.Joe-themed MUGGS! Featuring two from each "side": namely Duke and Snake-Eyes for the Joes, while Cobra Commander and Storm Shadow make up the villains-contingent.Seriously tho, with an entire catalog of characters - if Hasbro decides to make ALL of them into Muggs, collectors will

seen@sdcc2008: unkl makpo

I'm not 100% sure when my preference for the color Orange started ... perhaps when I conceived the corporate look of one of my dayjobs years ago, or perhaps it had laid latent within my other fav color (or some may argue "non-color"): BLACK.Regardless, from the insert pic (courtesy of John "Spanky" Stokes) of the Orange colorway MAK.PO [tagged] debut by UNKL at SDCC - may be a tad "colorful" for

seen@sdcc2008: black in white by luke chueh x munky king

Peeped on Toybot Studios - Luke Chueh's preview of his BLACK IN WHITE figure on display @ SDCC Munky King - based on one of his drawings of a black evil bunny emerging from a pristine white bunny suit - sans the red blood as seen in the "Black In White And Red All Over" print by MK [www]. *cool*[additional pic used with kind permission of Jceballo]

seen@sdcc2008: captain coco by tokidoki x strangeco

The one thing I really liked about Tokidoki's CAPTAIN COCO figure, was the "Pineapple Grenade" accessory / friend = a literal translation of the MK2 frag-grenade LOL (I still remember making a variation of it out of a Yakult-bottle for Army training yonks back, but never actually got to throw a "live" one tho :p)Captain Coco is seen down the side of the display-box ala a "Missing Person"-notice,

seen@sdcc2008: bad robot

These days, EVERYONE wants to make a toy (which frankly, is fine by me LOL) and in some instances, in an attempt to elevate beyond the much-maligned label ("toys" = "kids"), products are dubbed "collectibles" - making them suddenly acceptable to the masses (IMHO). Hey, call it whatever you want, but a good design is subjective as everyone's tastes and opinions differ. I may find this BAD ROBOT

ToyQube's Booth @ SDCC was swimming with sharks - figuratively, I mean! Courtesy of Steve Talkowski's sweet-pics, we get to have a gander at Keith Poon's new HAMMERHEAD-proto, looming over the regular sized Sharkys (man, I wished I'd gotten a blank-DIY instead of a production piece for August's show tho :p) and right next to them were lil itty-bitty keychain MINI-SHARKYS!
